Armacell stands for more than half a century of experience in the production and development of technical foams. At the beginning of the 50’s in the United States, engineers and chemists at Armstrong World Industries, the predecessor of Armacell International GmbH, developed a highly flexible, closed-cell plastic foam based upon elastomers. This was the insulation material Armaflex. The above-average technical properties and the possibilities for installing this new material easily and cleanly were unique. Armstrong left a long-lasting impression on the worldwide market for insulation materials with this innovation.
Half a century later - in May 2000 - the successful Insulation Products Division was spun off in a management buy-out and has since been doing business under the name of Armacell. Having left the American group, the company now has the flexibility and financial resources for opening up new areas of business and concentrating on new geographical markets. Under the leadership of Dr. Karl Paetz-Lauter, Vice President of Armacell International GmbH, the new technical foam division was created. Working throughout the world, the team develops and markets technical foams on the basis of rubber and made of thermoplastic and thermosetting materials which are used in a multitude of applications in the automotive, construction, packaging and furniture industries as well as in the sport and leisure sector.
As a result of many years of experience in the extrusion of elastomerics and polyolefin foams, our company has gained an understanding of the interaction between chemical reactions and the parameters of the manufacturing process. This enables our employees to develop and manufacture foams whose physical and chemical properties are custom-engineered for the requirements of our business partners. At the same time we continuously improve our production technology taking new scientific findings into consideration. In close cooperation with software manufacturers we have developed our own Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) programme to simulate the production process of plastic foams. This leads to considerable time-savings when manufacturing new products and permits us to provide our customers with prototypes just a few days after receiving the order. With production facilities in Europe, America and Asia, over 20 sales offices in all important regions of the world and a worldwide distribution network, we offer our customers unique service.
