Armacell - Wind Chill Factor /

Wind Chill Factor
For an insulated surface, movement of air over that surface has only a small effect on the overall heat loss but will reduce the temperature of the insulated surface. The effect of air movement is to increase the convection component of the surface coefficient.

Consider the following example:
  • Ambient = 20°C
  • Line = 80°C
  • l Value = 0.039 W/(m.K)
  • Pipe diameter = 42 mm
  • Insulation thickness = 19 mm
We may calculate the heat loss in still air (natural convection) and moving air:

Values of h in W/m2.K9.039.0
heat loss in W/m19.922.4
Surface temperature in °C28.820.2
