When pipework for hot services, e.g. hot water, central heating, low pressure hot water services up to 105 ēC or steam pipes up to 150 ēC run through an area where there is the risk of people coming into contact with the hot surface, it is necessary to provide insulation to reduce the surface temperatures for Health and Safety reasons. The recommendation of BS 5970 :1992 para 32.6 is that where there is a risk of contact with hot surfaces that the maximum surface temperature shall not exceed 65 ēC for non-metallic surfaces and 55 ēC for metallic surfaces.
Armaflex is the most suitable material for this purpose. The material has excellent insulating efficiency and it is also soft and flexible. |
