As a local manufacturer that operates in the midst of a residential area, Armacell UK has an integral part to play in the surrounding community.
Because we care about, and want to support the local residents to create a better place to live in, we are involved in several community projects.
Most of our community projects are run with the co-operation of Groundwork Oldham and Rochdale, a trust that aims to build sustainable communities through environmental action.
Environmental Garden
In 2004, the Armacell Environmental garden was created on derelict land next to our main premises. Not only did this visually improve the local environment, but it encouraged community spirit, and has been used since for a variety of purposes, from wedding celebrations to school visits and nature rambles.
Educational Package
In conjunction with Groundwork and local teachers, an education pack was produced for use in the garden by primary schools. Local schools can use the garden, and the nature reserve within it, to educate children outdoors in natural surroundings. This year, the educational package is to be re-launched in a more child-friendly format, with animated characters they can identify with.
Clean Neighbourhood Programme
In 2008, the partnership activity ‘Beatsweep’ was organised for our area, and our garden was used as a meeting place. Locals and employees were involved in a clean-up, followed by a barbeque and fun activities to try such as Nordic walking. Organisations such as the local fire, police and council were also on hand to offer valuable advice to the community.
Sponsored Roundabout and Underpass
Through the sponsorship of the local major roundabout and underpass, Armacell have helped to change a once dilapidated area into a pleasant, safe and green place to walk through and drive past.
